Destination: Bali

WHEN
Nyepi festival (Balinese new year)
Balinese new year celebrates new year every first new moon in March and they celebrate it like no other culture does. The Balinese Hindus do not celebrate the new year with lavish party, instead they celebrate the coming of the new year with meditation. No activities are allowed to take place. Everything is closed and no one is allowed to go out of their houses or make noise of any kind, even the airport is closed on this day. These prohibitions aim at controlling oneself and submission to God. Don't worry, resorts will still be in full service and they wont let you starve. Their kitchens will still be open but the menu will be limited.
Nyepi Day is a time for quiet contemplation and introspection; for visitors it’s also a panacea for the constant and overwhelming stimulation of modern life.

The anti-climax of the meditation is on the following day, which is called Ngembak Geni, where the people are happy and bless their success of controlling themselves. It is also the day of get-togetherness and family gathering.

Vegetarians may not be down with this one, but for meat-lovers like me, I think this small, open-air restaurant is #1 on my list. Ibu Oka has stood here for the past 20 years, serving up what many say is some of the best roast suckling pig on Bali was actually rated the best pork in the world by Jamie Oliver. Bourdain also payed a visit for his No Reservations: Bali episode.

Jalan Suweta/Tegal Sari

Perched on a rock about 14 meters above the ocean, sound of waves crashing, sun on your face and sand glistening in the background this will def put you in a good mood whether you want to be or not. Rock bar is the perfect place to have sunset cocktails and just the place to lounge and chill to cap up your day in paradise.
